Description
Between sky and tides, L'Aquarelle stands out for its 180-degree view with the river as its backdrop. Hour by hour the canvas is repainted as nature sees fit: the colours of the sky and the water blend into one another, in that way the skies of Charlevoix have all to themselves. At L'Aquarelle you have a front-row seat for each of those paintings, every one more inspiring than the last. Built in 2021 on more than three acres of land, the house is single-storey. Kitchen, dining area and living room share one cathedral-ceilinged volume turned toward the water by generous windows. The wood-burning fireplace anchors the living room wall; the kitchen has an induction cooktop, a built-in oven, a dishwasher, granite countertops and a walk-in pantry, with a ribbon window framing the river above the counter. The ceramic floors, laid throughout, are glycol-heated from December through March; a heat pump takes over the rest of the year and provides air conditioning in summer. The house sleeps up to six in two bedrooms: the main one with a king bed and a wood-burning fireplace, the second with two double beds and a desk nook. Both bedrooms open directly onto the bathroom. The bathroom brings together a freestanding tub, a glass shower and double sinks; a powder room and a laundry room round out the plan. On the terrace, the spa, the fire pit and the loungers all face the river. Dogs are welcome and the driveway holds four cars.

A 180-degree view of the river
The house sits high up at the end of a long gravel drive, on more than three acres of open land. In front of it, the St. Lawrence River fills the horizon and the far shore stretches into the distance. The living-space windows and the terrace are oriented toward that view, which shifts with the hours and the seasons — and which gave the house its name.
The living space and kitchen
Living room, dining area and kitchen form a single cathedral-ceilinged volume. The wood-burning fireplace warms the evenings with the television above it, and the picture windows frame the landscape. In the kitchen: induction cooktop, built-in oven, microwave, dishwasher, black granite countertops and a walk-in pantry. The island doubles as prep space and breakfast bar, the table sits facing the water, and a ribbon window runs above the counter at eye level with the river.
Bedrooms and sleeping arrangements
Two bedrooms sleep up to six. The main bedroom has a king bed, its window onto the river, a wood-burning fireplace and a door opening straight into the bathroom. The second holds two double beds with built-in storage drawers beneath them and a desk nook with a bookshelf — enough to work a morning without leaving the house. It opens onto the bathroom as well.
The bathroom, powder room and laundry
Double sinks on a wood vanity, a glass-walled shower and a freestanding tub set beneath the window: the bathroom was designed as a room in its own right. Alongside it, a separate powder room with its own basin and storage column, and a laundry room with washer and dryer.
The spa and terrace
The terrace extends the living space toward the river. It holds the spa and loungers facing the water, a fire pit ringed with Adirondack chairs for cool evenings, and the gas barbecue within reach of the kitchen. The grounds, largely open, leave room on every side of the house.
Four-season comfort
The ceramic floors are glycol-heated throughout the house from December through March. The rest of the year, the heat pump handles heating — and air conditioning once summer arrives. A 2021 build, insulated and meant to be lived in year-round.
Saint-Irénée, between La Malbaie and Baie-Saint-Paul
Saint-Irénée is the village facing the river, known for its views, its long beach and for Domaine Forget, its concert hall and international music festival. La Malbaie and Baie-Saint-Paul sit on either side along Route 362, the scenic road through Charlevoix.
Good to know
Dogs are welcome; other pets are not. The gravel driveway holds four cars. The house is connected: Wi-Fi included, and the living-room television is a smart TV — sign in with your own streaming accounts.
