On the way in, the beers from Microbrasserie Charlevoix in Baie-Saint-Paul are worth the stop. Our favourite: the Double Dominus Vobiscum.
On the road between Quebec City and Charlevoix, Baie-Saint-Paul is already a destination in itself — galleries, restaurants, that light the painters immortalized. But for beer lovers, the town harbours a particular treasure: Microbrasserie Charlevoix, which has been brewing Quebec beers for over twenty-five years.
Belgian-inspired beers
Microbrasserie Charlevoix has built a solid reputation around beers that borrow from Belgian brewing tradition while asserting a local character. The Dominus Vobiscum range — our favourite being the Double — has become a Quebec classic. These complex, full-bodied tasting beers are the kind of bottles you bring back to the chalet to accompany a good meal. La Flacatoune, their best-known blonde, remains the brewery's flagship — but for a big bottle to share, our recommendation goes to the Double Dominus Vobiscum.
The company does not limit itself to tradition: it also explores more contemporary styles, offering a range that satisfies the curious newcomer and the demanding connoisseur alike.
The road stop
Microbrasserie Charlevoix is located in Baie-Saint-Paul, approximately forty-five minutes from our chalet in Cap-à-l'Aigle, La Malbaie, Charlevoix. It is the ideal stop upon arriving in the region — stock up on a few bottles before driving on to your rental. Or plan a Baie-Saint-Paul outing combining the brewery, the art galleries, and a stop at Katabatik to book a river descent.
At the chalet, Microbrasserie Charlevoix beers find their natural place: at day's end, by the wood fireplace, or alongside a cheese board from the Route des Saveurs.
At dusk, a good Dominus Vobiscum tastes even better on the rooftop terrace of the Le Littoral chalet in Cap-à-l'Aigle, facing the St. Lawrence River.
